[Mission Hills] Educational Tour of a Successful Native Landscape w. Greg Rubin

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-educational-tour-of-a-successful-native-landscape-with-greg-rubin-tickets-853036052797

This is a rare opportunity – only for APLD members – to stroll through a thriving native garden, discussing the appropriate design, installation, and maintenance considerations that made it a success and how those techniques may differ from typical ornamental landscaping. Attendees are encouraged to bring something to take notes, with real "head-scratcher" moments being anticipated. Greg encourages questions and enjoys discussing these concepts, some of which may be entirely new. He'll be prepared to explain the justifications for each fully. Greg may also show us some basic maintenance techniques on a few plants, post-surgical limitations allowing.

Happy Hour will follow, during which we will have a round table discussion about CA natives in general.

The garden event address will be sent to registered attendees the day before the tour.

Tickets are FREE to APLD members; registration is required.

Webinar: Utilizing the Soil Foodweb Approach to Solve Key Issues in Landscaping

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/utilizing-the-soil-foodweb-approach-to-solve-key-issues-in-landscaping-tickets-853054006497

Renowned Soil Biologist Dr. Elaine Ingham will discuss key solutions for restoring healthy soil ecosystems to our projects.

As designers, we often find ourselves on project sites with depleted and disturbed soils. Dr. Elaine Ingham will help us address these and other common issues by utilizing the Soil Food Web Approach.

A healthy soil ecosystem creates the best possible conditions for your ideal landscape without using expensive toxic chemicals. Learn how to add biology that increases water-holding capacity through soil aggregation. Learn how to establish the optimal ratio of fungi to bacteria in the soil to suppress weeds the same way nature does, resulting in the growth of desirable plants, not weeds. Multiple case studies show noticeable improvement often occurs within the first growing season. You will learn what simple tests can be performed to track your success and determine how best to maintain your landscaping operation.

Dr. Elaine Ingham uncovered the Soil Food Web nearly four decades ago and has been pioneering research ever since. Widely recognized as the world’s foremost soil biologist, she’s passionate about empowering people to bring the soil in their communities back to life.

Dr. Elaine’s™ Soil Food Web Approach has successfully restored soils' ecological functions on more than five million acres of farmland worldwide. The courses offered by Dr. Elaine’s™ Soil Food Web School have been designed for people with or without a science background – making them accessible to individuals who wish to learn and begin a meaningful and impactful career in an area that will help to secure the survival of humans and other species.
